Question 1
"Tom, I noticed that more and more Korean dramas are being broadcasted on Korean cable channels. Do you plan on releasing any of those dramas here in the US?" ~Kristey

Answer: Wow, great question! You are right. More and more cable channels in Korea are starting to air their own TV dramas. These cable channels in Korea are the equivalent of our "HBO." They are watched only by cable subscribers. As these dramas are not from MBC, SBS, or KBS (free over-the-air TV), many people throughout the world may not be familiar with these "cable TV dramas." However, they are just as good, and in some cases, maybe even better. In most cases, the producers of these "cable TV dramas" are the same people who produce dramas for MBC, SBS, and KBS. So the stories, cast, music, etc are of the highest quality. The great news is that YAE will be releasing many of these "cable TV dramas" this year. In fact, we are releasing one in March. It's called Freeze. Click here for more information.

Question 2
I am looking for a drama called "Someday". I've looked all over for it and haven't seen it. Does YA Entertainment carry it? ~Laura

Answer: I am glad to announce that we will be caring "Someday" in our 2007 lineup. It should be out by late Spring of this year. I've seen a few episodes and really got into the storyline, I am excited about this one. Thanks for the question.

March Reviews

Title: What Planet Are You From?

What Planet Are You From?, also known as What Star Are You From?, is a Korean television drama (K-drama) produced by the South Korean television network MBC. It first aired in Korea during the first half of 2006. It is an uplifting tale about two people in love, who find themselves in an-almost tragic and very conflicted relationship. The general premise deviates from the common K-drama baseline and focuses on a couple different aspects beyond a love triangle. It is the character conflict, past relationships, and family problems at the height of the drama. Overall, What Planet Are You From? is a fun and enjoyable drama that is also sweet, passionate, loveable, and doesn't go over-the-top with drama.

The story takes place three years after a tragic event. Years ago, Choi Seung-Hee (Kim Rae-Won) fell in love with Lee Hye-Soo (Jeong Ryeo-Won). Oddly enough, they went to the same high school and by chance they never met. After high school, Seung-Hee went to Australia to attend college. He majored in film and won a prestigious award for a short film. Seung-Hee was a rising young director with the world at his feet. During his celebration party, his high school friend Han Jung-Hoon (Ok Ji-Young) introduced him to a good family friend, Hye-Soo. Click Here to read more

Title: Dae Jang Geum, Vol. 1

The South Korean television series Dae Jang Geum, which is also known as The Great Jang Geum and Jewel In The Palace, is a historical Korean drama (K-drama) based on the real life events of a historical figure from the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. This figure was the first woman in Korean history to become the King's personal physician. Set in the 16th century, Dae Jang Geum follows the trials of Suh Jang-Geum, a sweet and brilliant woman who strives to restore her family's honor. This series has been released on DVD in the United States in three volumes, which each have eighteen episodes (there are a total of fifty-four episodes). This review covers the first volume.

The story begins with a glimpse into the life and culture of 16th century Korea. It was a time when kings and queens ruled the land and their word was law. Under this hierarchical society, those who were not of noble birth could rarely rise above their casts. However, stations existed for the lower class to achieve positions that gave them power and ultimately, put them as close to nobility as one of their birth could reach. These stations were high positions within royal service. One such division for females was the kitchen. To be in such a position was an honor, and some would do almost anything to keep it.
