Rain's Comeback Project

Nothing’s confirmed yet, but news is being floated about the possibility of Jeon Ji-hyun (aka Gianna Jun) joining Rain’s drama comeback project, the KBS drama called Runaway (or Fugitive) written and directed by the Chuno pair, Chun Sung-il and PD Kwak Jung-hwan.
 
On May 6, a rep from KBS said, “After Rain’s casting was confirmed, we have considered a lot of actresses to play his co-lead. Currently Jeon Ji-hyun is the strongest candidate. Her side is looking into the project favorably, but will have to work with her schedule and that won’t be easy.” Another source from Jeon’s side said, “After hearing the news that director Kwak Jung-hwan, writer Chun Sung-il, and Rain had all joined the project, Jeon Ji-hyun is actively looking into it. As she is currently filming the movie Snow Flower and the Secret Fan in China and the U.S., care is being taken to work with her schedule.”
 
If Jeon were to sign on, this would be her first drama in 11 years, since 1999’s Happy Together. Runaway is described as a spy melodrama and is aiming for an October premiere. Producers are currently casting, and plan to begin filming in June after Rain wraps up his Asia tour. (More)

Daniel Henney heads to “Outback”

Daniel Henney, a Korean-American model and actor, will make his first appearance on a reality show, tentatively named “Daniel Henney Goes to Outback,” beginning on April 2 on the local cable network O’live.

Henney stated his feelings about his first experience at a press event held on March 22. “Unlike the TV dramas, a reality show doesn’t have any fixed rhythms, so it was much harder than I expected,” he said. “But still, it was interesting work.”

Daniel Henney Goes to Outback is an adventure reality show about Henney and Park Seong-woo’s journey in western Australia. Park is the winner of the latest cooking contest dubbed “It Chef,” which was hosted by the global restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse. Both travelled there to reinvent the restaurant’s New Year’s limited menu.

The production crew said that they are planning to return to Australia to prepare for the show’s next season.

Lee Jun-ki begins his military service

Well, the time has come, and Lee Jun-ki (Hero, Time Between Dog and Wolf) is off to fulfill his mandatory two-year military service. He headed off to the Nonsan training center on the afternoon of May 3, where he will undergo basic training for five weeks and then move on to twenty months of active duty.
 
Lee expressed his thanks to his supporters, and was sent off by a large crowd of 500 fans (which is pretty large for this sort of event; other actor send-offs tend to number around 100 or 200). (More)

Actress Choi Ji Woo: ‘I Was Happy While Helping Others’

Star actress Choi Ji Woo participated in charity work in Africa and a program entitled “Choi Ji Woo Stands on the Dark Land” aired on April 13 at 12:20 am on MBC TV to show her activities in Africa.

The program covered what she did in Swaziland. Choi Ji Woo visited the Madlangamphisi region in Swaziland where the international relief organization World Vision has been helping to develop the area, and implemented a hand pump by herself. Also, she taught children about sanitation and hygiene using animation.

Choi Ji Woo communicated with children by playing music using an MP3 player and made puffed maize with corn, which is the staple food of the region. (More)

Soo Ae to Star as Double Agent in ‘IRIS Season 2’

Actress Soo Ae is cast as the heroine of the spy-action drama “IRIS Season 2 - Athena: Goddess of War,” the production company Taewon Entertainment announced on April 9.

In the drama “IRIS Season 2 - Athena: Goddess of War,” which is a spin-off of the original IRIS drama, Soo Ae will play a double agent, Yoon Hye In. She belongs to National anti-Terror Service (NTS) as a female profiler and also takes a role within a secret organization as a special agent.

Soo Ae has revealed her pure and graceful beauty until now, but this time, she will transform into a cold-blooded spy and will perform difficult action scenes in the drama.

Gong Yoo to Star in ‘Looking For Kim Jong Wook’

Film studio Soo Film made an announcement on April 8 that actor Gong Yoo (31), who was discharged from the military service last December, is making a comeback after a three year break with the movie “Looking For Kim Jong Wook.”

"Looking For Kim Jong Wook" is a romantic comedy movie which is based on the very popular same-titled musical. It tells the love story between a woman--who cannot forget her first love whom she met during a tour in India and asks the “Finding First Love Company” to look for her first love named Kim Jong Wook--and a man who tries to find Kim Jong Wook according to her request.

Rain and Lee Byung Hun Potential Nominees for MTV Movie Awards

Rain and Lee Byung Hun have been named as preliminary nominees for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and are now waiting for viewers’ votes.

World-class music entertainment channel MTV released a statement on March 31 that the two entertainers made the list of preliminary nominated candidates for the 19th annual MTV Movie Awards, which will be held on June 6 in Los Angeles, California. The preliminary vote, which aims to single out nominees for each category, will be conducted online on the homepage of the MTV awards (http://www.movieawards.mtv.com). Viewers can submit their choices for nominees until April 9.

The host uncapped the regional limitation for voting for the first time to collect votes from anyone in any country, so viewers in Korea also can cast a vote from this year. (More)
