Jang Nara becomes an associate university professor
Hallyu star Jang Nara has been appointed an associate professor at a university in Beijing, according to her agency on Friday. Her agency announced in a press release that Jang received a letter of appointment from the president of Beijing Huajia University at a press conference in front of 100 media reporters, held at the Beijing International Convention Center on June 30. Jang made her debut in the entertainment industry as a singer, releasing her first album "The First Story" in 2001. The album spawned several hit songs including "Burying My Face In Tears" and "April Story," selling over 250,000 copies. She then became a household name with the success of her second album "Sweet Dream" (2002) which sold over 400,000 copies. Jang starred in the MBC TV drama “My Love Patzzi.” (More.) After making her name in drama series like Green Rose, My Girl, and Chuno, Lee Da-hae is ready to make her movie debut. She has been cast in the 3D historical project Song of Springs [현의 노래], a project described as “a movie telling the life story of legendary court musician Woo Reuk, who opened up the world of sound in a world ruled by the sword.” Song of Springs is based on a novel written by Kim Hoon and has been in pre-production for six years. It boasts a hefty production budget of 15 billion won and will be directed by Joo Kyung-joong, whose 2002 film A Little Monk won him the best director award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Superstar Jang Dong-gun is said to be eyeing a return to television acting, which would be his first time in ten years. The names and parties have mostly been masked, but here are the details: Jang recently received an offer from Production Company A to star in Blockbuster Drama B. Jang had initially declined the offer, but now has gone back to “reconsider the project favorably.” He recently met with the CEO of the production company to discuss the project closely. A source stated, “Because he has a busy schedule, he is currently reviewing the possibility of taking the project.” His last drama role was in an early Hallyu hit, 2000’s All About Eve (which, by the way, is getting a Chinese remake starring Korean actor Jang Hyuk). Kim Sun-ah is heading to Taiwan for her first-ever fanmeeting there this weekend. This trip is part of promotional activities for Kim’s last drama, City Hall, which enjoyed a successful run in Taiwan earlier this year. City Hall was Kim Sun-ah’s last project. Kim will first hold a press conference and fan-signing event, later followed by the fanmeeting on Saturday evening, the 12th. She’ll return to Korea the following day. Kim said, “I’m thankful to all my fans in Taiwan, who have sent me their heartfelt words of support and encouragement through my official homepage and in fan letters. I’ll do my best to make this a memorable event, so that meeting my Taiwanese fans for the first time will be an unforgettable time for all of us.” (sources: http://www.dramabeans.com/2010/06/kim-sun-ah-holds-her-first-fanmeeting-in-taiwan/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Actor banks on his lucky charm
Kwon Sang-woo, 33, was once one of the most eligible bachelors in the country, with a string of hit films and TV shows early in the decade. After seeing his popularity take a hit in recent years, he is now hoping to make a comeback with his role in the new film “71 - Into the Fire.” In the movie, set to be released on June 16, Kwon stars as Koo Kap-jo, a 17-year-old student soldier fighting against the North Korean army during the 1950-53 Korean War. But he was almost excluded from the cast. “I almost wasn’t cast because I’m too old [for the role],” Kwon said with a laugh at a press conference held earlier this month in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, southern Seoul. “After I got married, membership in my fan cafe dwindled from 240,000 to 135,000 - it was like a stock market crash,” Kwon said in an appearance on a talk show hosted by Kang Ho-dong on MBC in 2009. Singer-actor Lee Dong-gun began his military service on the afternoon of June 15, when he headed to the army reserve unit in Chuncheon. Per his wishes for a quiet enlistment with little fanfare, Lee had only made the announcement of his departure two days ahead of time to purposely discourage a large fan gathering. Still, a small group of fans managed to show up to send off the star (including approximately ten from Japan — he has enjoyed some popularity there as a singer — who flew up to Korea for the occasion). Lee said, “I’m enlisting later than intended, so I worry that I might be a hindrance to the others who train with me. That’s why I want to work even harder during training. All men have to go [and fulfill military service], and I thought it would be better to do so quietly. I’ll complete my two years diligently.” Asked whether he wants to serve in the entertainers’ unit, he answered, “I set my enlistment date so quickly I haven’t even thought of that. I haven’t made any plans yet.” Lee spent his last day as a civilian (the 14th) having drinks with his friends. He admitted that aside from his family, he hadn’t alerted anyone as to his enlistment until two days ago, when the public also found out. “I thought fans might come from far away, so I purposely didn’t let them know. I hope you won’t be sad about it.” After making his debut as a singer in 1998, Lee went on to act in Lovers in Paris, Sweet 18, Stained Glass, Smile Again and When Night Comes. After putting in his five weeks of basic training, Lee will serve twenty months of active duty, which puts his discharge at around March 2012.
