Glass
Slipper More Than Just a
Cinderella Story Volume 1 Available August
22nd
Glass Slipper is far from your typical
Cinderella story. Originally aired by SBS in 2002, Glass
Slipper tells the story of two sisters tragically separated as
children and their inevitable reunion. When Tae-Hee
and Yoon-Hee’s parents pass away, the girls set off on a
journey to find the grandfather they’ve never met. An
accident, however, separates the two girls and they soon
discover fate has set very different paths for each of them.
Tae-Hee’s character, played by Kim Ji Ho, is fun and
spontaneous, often acting in the present and thinking about it
later. She is able to overcome many of life’s obstacles with
her tenacious spirit. Kim Hyun Joo plays the refreshingly
likable Yoon-Hee, who like Tae-Hee, is still longing for her
lost sister. She has lost everything in her life, her family,
wealth and even her memory yet she’s still keeps her bright
cheerfulness. Glass Slipper is more than just your
everyday fairy tale romance; we feel the characters' pain as
they realize that life can change in a blink of an eye. This
drama reflects on the true meaning of life, family and
happiness. Follow Tae-Hee and Yoon-Hee on this amazing journey
into the heart of life’s most important lessons.

Questions and Answers! You Ask...Tom
Answers
Question
1:
"Will YA Entertainment include extras
such as "behind the scenes" in its future DVDs?" Pamela
Answer:
Yes! We are
working hard to add "extras" in more and more of our releases.
In fact, two of our upcoming releases, "Glass Slipper" and
"Sad Love Story" will include 2-3 hours of fully subtitled
extras, such as "Making Of" and "Behind the Scenes!" Thanks
for your question Pamela!
Question
2:
"I want to buy "Lovers in Prague" on DVD
with English subtitles. I noticed that it is available at some
websites. Is this your company's release?" Michael
Answer:
No. Our US
DVD version of "Lovers in Prague" with (excellent) English
subtitles will be released in October 2006. The DVD version
currently available at some websites is the "Korea version."
This "Korean version" DVD is licensed and manufactured only
for the domestic Asian market, not for exporting to other
countries like the US. Besides being illegal, there are two
other reasons to avoid buying these Asian version DVDs:
(1) they are always more expensive than YAE's US
version
(2) the English subtitle quality on these
"Korea versions" is average, at best.
We get emails
from fans each month saying: "I regret buying that Asia
version DVD. The English subtitles are horrible. I should have
waited to buy your US version!" Thanks for the letter Michael
and keep watching!

ACTOR SPOTLIGHT Nam Sang Mi Shines in Sweet Spy
An actress with talent and poise beyond her
years, Nam Sang-Mi, 22, has established herself as one of the
most talked about and sought out young actresses in K-dramas.
But things weren’t always so easy for the rising superstar and
super-cute Nam Sang-Mi. Just 4 years ago, Sang-mi was working
part time at a fast food chain near Hanyang University in
Seoul. Like Park Han-Byul of Wishing Stairs, Nam made her
start online and quickly became popular among Internet users.
While Nam Sang-Mi has mesmerized fans with her upbeat and
charming personality, there is more to love about Sang-Mi than
just her looks. “Nam Sang-Mi has 'it': she mixes a manhwa-like
innocence with raw power, and seems to take this job a lot
more seriously than any of her other 'eoljjang' colleagues.”
(TWITCH) In Sweet Spy, Nam plays Soon-Ae, a
recently widowed police officer who is thrown into the world
of politics, espionage and corruption when she accidentally
forgets to return a special spy pen to an international spy
played by model turned actor, Dennis Oh. Her turmoil escalades
when the chief of police, Kang-Joon (Lee Joo-Hyun) reopens the
investigation into her husband’s death, entangling Soon-Ae
into the world of current political/economical powers and
their secrets. Nam shines in her endearing portrayal
of Soon-Ae in Sweet Spy and shows that she is more than
just a pretty face. “I would like to be known as a genuine
actress, not merely as an attractive woman, and come much
closer to my fans.” (KBS GLOBAL) The 2006 Best Actress Nominee
describes herself as “tenderhearted” and finds that she is
easily moved to tears whenever she becomes angry or emotional.
In a recent interview, Nam said, “I try to find how to
practice acting in everyday life, rather than have separate
learning hours. I practice controlling my emotions on my
own.”

Popularity of K-Drama Preview Parties
Spreading in U.S. The “Korean Wave”
Appealing To More Mainstream Audiences
As you walk into your favorite book/movie
store, you expect certain things. Couples snuggling up to a
good book in an oversized chair, friends chatting in the cafe
over lattés, or the playful laughter coming from the
children’s area. On this busy Wednesday night, the excitement
comes from a packed room where fans just watched the first
episode of My Lovely Sam-Soon, the insanely popular
Korean drama staring actress Kim Sun-Ah. The popularity of the
Korean Wave has hit home for some retailers as they begin to
hold more and more monthly K-drama parties, and seeing record
attendance.
As the popularity of Korean TV Dramas
grows, K-drama Preview Parties are spreading to more retail
stores across the United States. “More and more video stores
are catching on to the popularity of the K-drama Preview
Parties. Korean TV dramas have successfully engaged viewers
all over the U.S., young and old alike,” said Tom Larsen,
President, YA Entertainment. “The ‘Korean Wave’ and high
quality K-dramas have successfully captivated worldwide
audiences, including a growing U.S. viewership turned off by
the sex, gore, and violence that drives today’s American
entertainment industry.” Next month's issue of YAE
Insider will spotlight one such K-Drama preview party
going on in Los Angeles. Stay Tuned!

July's Spotlight
The Hawaii K-Drama Fan
Club
Starting in 2002 in Hawaii, the Hawaii
K-Drama Fan Club started with a modest 20 members. Today,
they have more than 400 members, and continue to grow every
year. It all started when co-founders Nora Muramota and Gerrie
Nakamura met in an online Korean drama fan forum, and decided
to make their own club. Thanks to the successful growth in
membership, they meet at least 3 times a year and participate
in many events to discuss the latest buzz in the k-wave.
Their activities include: volunteering to man various
booths for Korean Festivals, sharing their Hawaiian
hospitality for the stars when they come to Hawaii and even
taking trips to South Korea. Their most recent event was the
Hallyu Shooting Stars Basketball Charity game where a portion
of the proceeds benefited The Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii.
To say thank you to the Hawaii K-Drama Fan Club, YA
Insider will be sending them exclusive K-Drama posters and
a free box set of the soon to be released, Glass
Slipper.
If you have a K-Drama fan club and would
like to be featured in our next month's issue, please send an
email to Katie.Flanagan@yaentertainment.com. Please include a
brief explanation of your club and your activities.
